MPB is a genetic condition that can be passed on from either side of the family tree. The condition is a byproduct of a testosterone called Dihydrotestosterone or DHT as it is more commonly known. The DHT attaches the hair follicle and over time will cause them to shrink. The hair becomes thinner and thinner, in some cases causing total baldness, especially on the top of the head and the crown area.

Whilst MPB is the most common cause for male hair thinning and loss there are a number of other possible causes.

Medical – Certain medical procedures and medication can cause hair loss.

Alopecia – is a condition that can cause sudden bald patches of various sizes at anytime in the life cycle.

Alopecia Totalis – is a less common form of Alopecia that results in total hair loss and can effect all hair including body hair.

Trauma – A traumatic event or sudden shock can cause hair loss.

Stress – Many experts have also linked some forms of hair loss to stress. Ironically, if this is true, worrying about hair loss could make it worse.
